On November 13, 2023, a tragic incident occurred at an apartment complex in North Miami, Florida, resulting in the deaths of Hector Rivera and his two sons, Jeremy and Frank Rivera. The incident began with a physical altercation between Hector Rivera and his neighbor, 33-year-old Pierce Nelson Hoempler. The altercation escalated when the two men ended up on the ground on the front lawn of the apartment complex, with Hoempler on top of Rivera, pinning him down.
When Hector Rivera's sons, Jeremy and Frank, came to their father's aid, the situation turned deadly. Hoempler pulled a semi-automatic pistol from his waistband and shot all three men. Footage from a neighbor's Ring camera captured the sound of several gunshots being fired during the incident.
Hector and Jeremy Rivera were pronounced dead at the scene. Frank Rivera, who was also shot, was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center but succumbed to his injuries. The police and fire rescue teams responded promptly to the scene, closing off the area with yellow police tape and providing emergency services.
Pierce Nelson Hoempler was subsequently arrested and booked into jail on three second-degree murder charges. He remains held without bond in connection with the deaths of Hector Rivera and his two sons.
