On November 18, 2023, 16-year-old Randy Smith was fatally shot in Orlando, Florida. The incident occurred at the Metro Place Apartments, where police received calls regarding gunshots and a white SUV stuck on a parking block around 5:25 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found Smith with a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The Orlando Police Department has made two arrests in connection with Smith's death.
The first arrest was of 17-year-old Trayvon Randell Jackson, who was taken into custody on January 3, 2024. Jackson faces charges of second-degree murder and principal in first-degree armed robbery with a firearm.
A second arrest was made on January 12, 2024, when 16-year-old Rise K Burgess was taken into custody. Burgess is charged with second-degree murder with a firearm in the killing of Randy Smith. Following his arrest, Burgess was transferred from the juvenile detention center to the Orange County Jail.
