On July 4, 2024, Jose Carrasquillo, a 45-year-old resident of Orlando, Florida, was fatally shot by a gunman. The incident occurred at a mobile home park in Orange County. The shooter, who was later identified as 48-year-old Leandro Correa, targeted Carrasquillo in this initial attack.
Following the shooting of Carrasquillo, the gunman traveled approximately 3.5 miles down the road and shot a second victim. Both men succumbed to their injuries as a result of the shootings.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and initiated an investigation. Through their efforts, investigators determined that Leandro Correa was the prime suspect in the double homicide. Correa was subsequently located and taken into custody by the authorities.
On October 20, 2024, a local grand jury formally indicted Leandro Correa on two counts of First Degree Murder (with a Firearm) for the deaths of Jose Carrasquillo and the second victim. The indictment was secured after the State presented sufficient evidence to the grand jury. Correa remains in custody pending further legal proceedings.
