On July 15, 2024, Andre Lenard White, a 38-year-old man, was fatally shot outside his workplace in Opa-locka, Florida. The incident occurred at Arrow Asphalt & Engineering, located at 3051 NW 129th St., shortly after 6 a.m.
The events leading to White's death began on July 9, when he got into an argument with his co-worker, Maurice Antwan Williams, 40, of Miami. During the argument, White poked Williams in the forehead, which escalated the situation.
Williams retaliated by hitting White, and their co-workers intervened to separate them. Following the altercation, Williams was ordered to leave the job site by his supervisor.
On the morning of July 15, Williams returned to the workplace. White’s supervisor instructed White to go home for the day, and White began walking to his vehicle, which was parked along a dirt road. Co-workers reported seeing Williams sprint to his vehicle, fumble around in the driver’s section, and then run towards where White was last seen walking. Moments later, they heard several rapid gunshots.
After the shooting, Williams was seen walking back to his vehicle and stated that he would wait for the police. In his statement to detectives, Williams claimed that White had approached him, struck him in the back of the head, causing him to fall to his knees, and then placed him in a chokehold. However, this account does not align with the witnesses' descriptions of the events.
Andre Lenard White was found outside the business with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. His body was transported to the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
Maurice Antwan Williams was arrested and charged with one count of second-degree murder with a deadly weapon. As of the time of the incident, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, with his bond yet to be determined. Both the weapon and Williams are in police custody, and the Miami-Dade Police Homicide Unit conducted a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
