On September 1, 2024, a shooting incident occurred outside the Tropicana Bar & Lounge in northwestern Miami-Dade County, Florida. During this incident, a man identified as Travis Sentell Sims, aged 45, was shot and declared dead at the scene. The crime scene was located near the boundary of the Gladeview and West Little River neighborhoods, specifically at Northwest 79 Street and 10 Court.
The shooting followed a fight at the bar, according to a witness related to the victim.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel responded to the scene and found Sims dead. A yellow tarp was used to cover his body.
In addition to Sims' death, another adult male was injured during the incident. He was initially taken to Hialeah Hospital and later transferred to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where his condition was reported as stable.
The Miami-Dade Police Department responded to a ShotSpotter alert and blocked Northwest 79 Street in both directions as part of their investigation. Detectives have not yet released information about the gunman or the motive behind the shooting.
