On September 10, 2024, a fatal shooting occurred in Lakeland, Florida, resulting in the death of 32-year-old Alfredo “Freddie” Alfaro-Astello. The incident took place at Alfaro-Astello's residence on Fleming Avenue, where he was found dead in the front yard by deputies from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office who responded to reports of gunshots around 10:07 a.m.
The suspected shooter, identified as 38-year-old Clinton “CJ” Robinson, Jr., was apprehended by the deputies. Witnesses reported seeing Robinson approach Alfaro-Astello, hearing multiple gunshots, and observing smoke coming from a firearm in Robinson’s hand. After the shooting, Robinson was heard saying, “How do you like me now?” as he walked away from the scene.
Alfaro-Astello and Robinson were neighbors, and there had been previous disputes between them. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office, led by Sheriff Grady Judd, confirmed that the two men had a history of arguments, and the shooting was described as a targeted event rather than a random act of violence.
Robinson is currently in custody and has been charged with several offenses, including 1st Degree Murder, Tampering with Evidence, False Report to Law Enforcement in a Capital Offense Investigation, Possession of Fentanyl, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He remains in the Polk County Jail with no bond for the murder and tampering charges.
The investigation is ongoing, with detectives seeking to determine the specific circumstances that led to the deadly interaction.
