On the late evening of Saturday, March 11, 2023, a party being held in an industrial park in Hamden, Connecticut, turned tragic. Inside the Wilbur Cross Commons at 60 Connolly Parkway, a festive gathering devolved into a physical altercation. Amid the chaos of the dispute, which authorities later characterized as a family matter, gunshots rang out.
Anthony Pearson, a 39-year-old Black / African American male from New Haven, was shot during the confrontation.
Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 11:15 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered a chaotic scene and found that Pearson had been shot. Bystanders and police officers attempted to provide life-saving medical assistance to him. Pearson was then rushed to Yale New Haven Hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the Hamden Police Department launched an investigation into the incident. Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit and the Crime Scene Unit responded to the industrial park to gather evidence and interview those present. Authorities reported that firearms were recovered at the scene and seized as evidence.
The police have described the shooting as an isolated incident stemming from a family dispute. According to law enforcement, all individuals involved in the altercation remained at the scene and were cooperative with the investigation, providing interviews to detectives. While the investigation was ongoing in coordination with the State's Attorney's Office, officials stated that they were not actively searching for any suspects in connection with Anthony Pearson's death and no charges were immediately filed.
