On a summer afternoon in Waterbury, Connecticut, the life of 32-year-old Donald Moore, a Black male, was tragically cut short. On June 17, 2023, in the vicinity of the Big Apple Motel on West Main Street, Moore was shot in the neck. The incident unfolded after 4 p.m., leaving him with a fatal injury. First responders found Moore and quickly transported him to Waterbury Hospital, but his life could not be saved, and he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting led Waterbury
police to a suspect. A few days after the incident, on June 20, 2023, authorities arrested 38-year-old Al-Tariq Heath in connection with Moore's death. Heath was taken into custody and faced a series of serious charges, including murder, criminal possession of a firearm, and criminal use of a weapon.
Further charges against Heath included carrying a pistol without a permit, illegal discharge of a firearm, and reckless endangerment, painting a grim picture of the events that transpired. Following his arrest, Heath was held on a significant bond and was scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Waterbury to face the allegations brought against him for his role in the violent death of Donald Moore.
