On the night of March 30, 2024, Richard Davis, a 30-year-old Black male from Bridgeport, Connecticut, was fatally shot in an incident that also resulted in the death of another man. The violent encounter unfolded at an illegal gambling club situated on Stratford Avenue in Bridgeport. When police responded to reports of gunfire around 11:00 p.m., they discovered Davis and another individual, 32-year-old Tayvon Geter, outside the establishment with gunshot wounds.
Both Davis and Geter were
transported to Bridgeport Hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries. The investigation later suggested that the shooting erupted during a robbery attempt allegedly initiated by Davis and Geter inside the club. The situation escalated into a gunfight, resulting in their deaths. Two other individuals were also wounded during the exchange of gunfire: a 34-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man, both from Bridgeport. They were treated for their injuries and were reported to be in stable condition.
In the aftermath of the deadly shooting, the Bridgeport Police Department's Detective Bureau Homicide Squad launched an investigation that led to several arrests. A 38-year-old Bridgeport man, was taken into custody and faced charges including criminal possession of a firearm, tampering with evidence, and stealing a firearm. Another man, was also arrested in connection to the incident. Additionally, a woman was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit robbery and illegal gambling for her alleged role in the events at the club. Authorities indicated that they anticipated making more arrests as the investigation continued. City officials, including the mayor and police chief, addressed the violence, vowing to crack down on illegal establishments that foster such criminal activity.
