In the quiet seaside village of Niantic, Connecticut, the life of 77-year-old Lorraine M. DeCarli, a Caucasian female, came to a tragic and unexpected end on Friday, April 5, 2024. The circumstances of her death unfolded within her home on Billow Road, a place that should have been a sanctuary. Concern arose when a neighbor realized that Lorraine and her long-time companion had not been seen, nor were they reachable.
This led to a call for a well-being check, bringing officers from the East Lyme Police Department to her doorstep at approximately 3:30 in the afternoon.
Upon entering the residence, the officers made a grim discovery. Both Lorraine DeCarli and a 76-year-old man, Frank Cirioni, were found deceased inside the home. The scene prompted an immediate and thorough investigation, with the assistance of the State Police Eastern District Major Crime Squad and the New London State's Attorney's office. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner later confirmed the devastating details. Lorraine DeCarli’s death was ruled a homicide, the result of a gunshot wound. Frank Cirioni, who resided with her, also died from a gunshot wound, and his death was determined to be a suicide. The investigation concluded that the incident was a murder-suicide, and as a result, there was no ongoing threat to the community and no arrests to be made. The case, while officially closed, left behind a legacy of sorrow for a life taken too soon. Lorraine was remembered as a loving mother and grandmother who had worked for over four decades in the healthcare and health insurance industry before her retirement.
