Matthew Hire, a 57-year-old man from Denver, was found dead from a gunshot wound inside his RV on April 14, 2023. The discovery was made by a Jefferson County Sheriff's deputy during a routine patrol of the Wooly Mammoth Park-N-Ride lot, which is located along U.S. 40 near the Interstate 70 Morrison exit. The deputy noticed the RV's door swinging open and found Hire's body inside around 3:45 p.m..
