In the early morning hours of October 1, 2023, the quiet of an Aurora, Colorado apartment complex was shattered by an act of violence that claimed the life of 23-year-old Jose Hernandez Pena. A Hispanic male, Pena was discovered slumped in the driver's seat of his blue 2006 Volkswagen Jetta in a parking lot within the Lyn Knoll neighborhood, located in the 500 block of Potomac Street. Responding to a call of a shooting at approximately 4:45 a.m., Aurora police officers arrived to a tragic scene. They found that Pena had sustained numerous gunshot wounds and was deceased. The Arapahoe County Coroner's Office later officially identified him and confirmed that the cause of his death was a gunshot wound, classifying the manner of death as a homicide. The investigation into the shooting began immediately, with law enforcement canvassing the area for evidence and seeking any information that could lead to a break in the case.
