On the afternoon of March 4, 2022, the world was shocked by the sudden passing of 52-year-old Shane Warne. The iconic Australian cricketer was on holiday in Koh Samui, Thailand, at the beginning of a three-month break. He was staying in a private villa with friends and was found unresponsive when he did not come down for dinner as planned. His friends immediately began trying to revive him, performing CPR for about 20 minutes before paramedics arrived.
Despite their desperate efforts and those of the medical staff, he could not be revived and was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Initial investigations by Thai police found no evidence of foul play or stolen assets. Warne had reportedly experienced chest pains prior to his trip and had a history of asthma and heart issues, for which he had previously seen a doctor. An autopsy was conducted, and the results concluded that the male's death was due to natural causes, specifically a suspected heart attack. His body was then repatriated to Australia for a private funeral and a state memorial service at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
In the time following his death, some controversy arose with reports alleging a potential cover-up. It was claimed that an item, a bottle of Kamagra, a drug for erectile dysfunction, was removed from the villa by police at the direction of senior officials. This led to speculation, as the drug can have dangerous side effects for individuals with heart problems. At the scene, police also noted the presence of bloodstains on the floor, towels, and pillows, which they stated occurred during the prolonged CPR attempts when he had coughed up liquid and was bleeding. Despite these later reports, the official cause of death remains natural causes, and no arrests were made in connection with the incident.
