In the early hours of a snowy Friday morning in Aurora, Colorado, a young woman's life was cut short by gunfire. Theresa Burke, a 24-year-old female, was fatally shot on March 15, 2024, inside a condominium complex on the 14600 block of East Second Avenue. When police officers arrived at the scene around 3 a.m. following reports of a shooting, they found Theresa suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite their life-saving efforts, she succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
Immediately following the shooting, three suspects fled the area in a moving truck, leading police on a chase through the snow-covered streets. The pursuit came to an end near E470 and Pena Boulevard when the truck became stuck in the snow. The three men inside attempted to flee on foot but were quickly apprehended by law enforcement. The suspects were identified as 31-year-old Cameron Mooty, 32-year-old Stephan Cherry, and 26-year-old Corey Allen. Inside the moving truck, investigators discovered several firearms that were seized as evidence.
All three men were arrested in connection with Theresa Burke's death and are facing charges of second-degree murder. At the time of their arrest, it was discovered that both Stephan Cherry and Corey Allen had outstanding felony warrants. Cameron Mooty was also found to have sustained a gunshot wound at some point during the incident, though it was not inflicted by police. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment before being booked into the Aurora Jail. Friends and family remembered Theresa, affectionately known as 'Jack,' as a vibrant and adventurous journeyman electrician with an infectious laugh who deeply loved her family.
