In what was meant to be a hopeful purchase for their teenage daughter, a couple from Aurora, Colorado, met a tragic and violent end. Jossline Roland, a 40-year-old female, and her husband, Joseph Roland, 39, were fatally shot on August 14, 2020, during a planned meeting to buy a used car they had found through the online marketplace app, Letgo. The couple, parents to five children, had arranged to purchase a Toyota RAV4.
The seller, who was later identified as 18-year-old Kyree Brown, had listed the stolen vehicle on the app. The initial meeting was set at a mall in Aurora. Brown then convinced the Rolands to follow him to a different location, an apartment complex on East Cornell Circle, under the pretense of having brought the wrong title for the car. It was at this second location that the encounter turned deadly.
Once at the apartment complex, Brown pulled out a gun and attempted to rob the couple of the $3,000 they had brought to purchase the vehicle. An altercation ensued, and Brown fired his weapon, striking both Jossline and Joseph. The couple was transported to a local hospital where they were pronounced dead within minutes of each other.
Following the murders, Brown was apprehended on August 27, 2020, after a police chase. The investigation revealed that after killing the Rolands, he had relisted the stolen car for sale on the same app. He was subsequently charged with two counts of first-degree murder. In August 2022, a jury convicted Kyree Brown on multiple counts, including first-degree murder, aggravated robbery, and theft. He was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences in prison without the possibility of parole.
