On the evening of September 6, 2023, the life of 36-year-old Tiana Robinson, a Black / African American female from Osceola, Arkansas, was tragically cut short. At approximately 9:20 p.m., officers from the Osceola Police Department were dispatched to the 100 block of West Broadway following a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Robinson unconscious, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite immediate and exhaustive life-saving efforts, she was pronounced dead shortly before 10:00 p.m.
The investigation into Robinson's death quickly focused on her ex-boyfriend, Reggie Matthews. He was identified as the primary suspect, and a search for him ensued. The day after the fatal shooting, authorities successfully located and apprehended Matthews. He was initially charged with first-degree murder in connection with Robinson's death, bringing a swift, though somber, development to the case for a grieving community.
As the legal process unfolded, the charges against Reggie Matthews were elevated. On December 27, 2023, the prosecution amended the charges to capital murder, reflecting the gravity of the crime. The case proceeded to a jury trial, which took place from September 24 to September 26, 2024. After hearing the evidence presented, the jury found Matthews guilty of capital murder. Following the conviction, the presiding judge sentenced him to life in prison without the possibility of parole, the maximum sentence allowed under Arkansas law, ensuring that he would be held accountable for the violent end to Tiana Robinson's life.
