In the late hours of a Saturday, on August 17, 2024, the life of 19-year-old Jack Thomas Poole was tragically cut short in Russellville, Arkansas. A young White/Caucasian man with a promising future, he was a sophomore nursing major at Arkansas Tech University. That evening, at approximately 10:40 p.m., Russellville Police Department officers were called to a residence in the 400 block of Ashwood, an off-campus home, with a report of a person having been shot.
Upon their arrival,
officers discovered Poole had sustained a fatal gunshot wound. Despite immediate attention, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Authorities from the Russellville Police Department have indicated that the initial findings suggest the shooting was accidental. However, the investigation into the precise circumstances surrounding the incident remains active and ongoing. At this time, no arrests have been made, and no specific suspects have been named as the investigation continues.
Jack, a resident of Hattieville and a 2023 graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Morrilton, was remembered as a bright and beloved individual. He was an active member of his university community, and his sudden death was met with an outpouring of grief from family, friends, and the faculty and students at Arkansas Tech University. The university has offered counseling services to those affected by the tragedy.
