In the early morning hours of March 14, 2023, the life of Robert Lorenz Bien, a 34-year-old man, was tragically cut short on a residential street in Ogden, Utah. Bien, known as a loving and kind person, grew up in Ogden and was a graduate of Ben Lomond High School. He was a dedicated employee, having worked for 11 years at Emeritus Estates and was currently employed as a chef at the City Club.
On that fateful morning, at approximately 3 a.m., Bien was with another man in the 2900 block
of Childs Avenue when a car approached them. Two individuals, later identified as Hugo Zamora Jr., 25, and a 17-year-old male, Charli Ortega Delgadillo, exited the vehicle. One of the suspects produced a handgun and they proceeded to rob the two men. The person with Bien had $60 taken from him. According to reports, Bien refused to cooperate with the demands of the assailants and was subsequently shot and killed. The suspects then fled the scene.
The Ogden Police Department launched an investigation into the homicide. Their efforts led them to Zamora, of Hooper, who was arrested in early May 2023 on suspicion of aggravated murder, aggravated robbery, and obstruction of justice. The 17-year-old was also taken into custody and booked into a juvenile detention facility on the same charges. While Zamora reportedly claimed he was not the gunman, both he and Delgadillo were formally charged with aggravated murder and aggravated robbery.
Further investigation into the suspects revealed a potential link to another crime. Authorities began looking into whether Zamora and Delgadillo were involved in a road rage incident on February 20, where shots were fired from a dark-colored Honda on I-15 near Kaysville. Ballistics testing connected the shell casings found at the scene of the road rage incident to those recovered from the scene of Bien's murder.
