In the quiet community of Washington, Utah, the life of 69-year-old Gail Lynn Bailey, a White female, came to a tragic and violent end on the evening of June 18, 2024. Alongside her husband, Joseph Anthony Bailey, she was fatally shot inside their home on East Chinook Drive in what authorities have described as a brutal double homicide. The tranquility of their neighborhood was shattered when police responded to a call of shots fired, discovering the couple deceased from apparent gunshot
wounds.
The ensuing investigation quickly focused on a single suspect: their 28-year-old child, Mia Bailey. According to law enforcement, Mia, who was no longer welcome at the residence, entered the home and opened fire on her mother almost immediately. Her father, drawn by the noise, was then also shot. In a chilling confession to police, Mia detailed the events, stating that after initially shooting both parents, she returned to fire additional shots to ensure they were dead. Gail Bailey was reportedly shot four times.
Following the shootings, Mia fled the scene, prompting an overnight manhunt. The suspect was considered armed and dangerous, and a shelter-in-place order was issued for a time in St. George where she was eventually located. After a standoff with police that lasted for a couple of hours, Mia Bailey surrendered and was taken into custody.
During police questioning, Mia Bailey allegedly expressed no remorse for her actions, stating that she hated her parents and would do it again. The investigation also revealed that Mia's brother and his wife were in the home at the time of the incident. They had locked themselves in a downstairs bedroom after hearing arguments and gunshots. Mia Bailey has since been arrested and is facing multiple felony charges, including two counts of aggravated murder and one count of attempted aggravated murder.
