Caden Cade Thomas Hartwig, a 10-year-old White male from Clear Lake, Iowa, died after an incident that occurred on August 14, 2016. The event took place at a shooting range in Garner, Iowa, where he was accidentally shot with a pellet gun. Caden was born on June 11, 2006.
Following the accidental shooting, Caden was transported to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines for medical treatment. He passed away at the hospital on Tuesday, August 16, 2016.
His death was determined to be the result of the accidental pellet gun shot.
Caden was a fourth-grade student at Clear Creek Elementary in Clear Lake and was part of the graduating class of 2025. He was known to enjoy helping his father in his workshop and at the fire station. He also liked assisting his mother in the kitchen. The community and his family were deeply affected by the sudden and tragic loss of the young boy. No arrests were made in connection with the incident as it was ruled an accident.
