On May 4, 2017, Brian Anthony Mason, a 33-year-old African-American male, was fatally shot in the Springfield neighborhood of Jacksonville, Florida. Police responded to a call just before 2 a.m. and found Mason lying on the sidewalk near East 9th Street and Market Street. He was transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The circumstances surrounding the shooting were unclear, with no witnesses reported at the scene.
