In a quiet Glendale, Arizona home, a violent tragedy unfolded on the night of June 6, 2016, ending the life of 65-year-old Peggy Kuhn. That evening, a family member inside the residence heard loud banging noises and discovered a horrific scene: Peggy, her husband Robert Kuhn, and their son Alex Kuhn were all covered in blood. The family member hid with two children in a bedroom closet and called 911.
When police arrived at the home near 91st Avenue and Bethany Home Road, they found the three victims with life-threatening gunshot wounds. Peggy and her son Alex were transported to a hospital where they later died from their injuries; Robert survived the attack.
The investigation into the triple-shooting soon unraveled a sinister plot allegedly orchestrated from within the family. Detectives arrested two individuals in connection with the murders: Kipling Harris, 34, and Kimberly LaCount, 39, who was the wife of victim Alex Kuhn. Authorities revealed that LaCount was allegedly having an affair with Harris and that the two had conspired to kill her husband. Text messages between LaCount and Harris reportedly showed them coordinating the attack, with LaCount providing details about the victims' activities inside the house just before the shooting. Investigators also learned that LaCount had allegedly provided Harris with the revolver used in the murders, which she had taken from her father-in-law's gun safe.
According to court documents, LaCount admitted to detectives that she had tried to solicit other men to kill her husband over the years, but none would go through with it until she met Harris. Harris, in his statements to the police, claimed that Alex Kuhn had been emotionally and physically abusive toward LaCount and that he was willing to 'sacrifice' himself for her and her children's happiness. The initial 911 call made by LaCount, in which she claimed to be hiding in fear, was later described by police as a deceptive part of the elaborate scheme. Kipling Harris was ultimately convicted on charges of murder, attempted murder, and burglary, and was sentenced to life in prison. Kimberly LaCount was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of conspiracy to commit murder, facing a potential death penalty for her alleged role as the mastermind behind the brutal slayings of her husband and mother-in-law.
