In the quiet city of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, a domestic tragedy unfolded that ended the life of 42-year-old Keri L. Malkiewicz. On the evening of August 29, 2019, concerns grew for Keri when she failed to return home after going to a residence on Green Acres Drive to retrieve some of her personal belongings. This led to a welfare check request to the Lake Havasu City Police Department at approximately 10:20 p.m.
Upon their arrival and subsequent investigation, officers made a grim
discovery inside the home. They found Keri and a male, later identified as her 53-year-old estranged husband, Daniel J. Malkiewicz, both deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. Detectives from the department's Criminal Investigations Unit were called to the scene to piece together the events that had transpired.
The investigation revealed that the couple was in the process of separating. It is believed that during Keri's visit to the house to collect her property, Daniel shot her with a handgun. Following this act, he then used the same weapon to take his own life. The incident was determined to be an apparent murder-suicide. Initial reports in the media of blood at the end of the driveway were later clarified by authorities to be unrelated to the deceased; it was from a dog that sustained a minor injury during its rescue from the property by an Animal Control Officer. The dog was safely returned to a family member. At the time of the reports, the case remained under active investigation pending an autopsy.
