In the summer of 2020, a welfare check requested by a concerned family member led to the grim discovery of a double homicide in an El Mirage, Arizona home. The investigation began on July 3rd when an out-of-state man contacted police, worried that he had not heard from his 77-year-old stepfather, Ronny John Muench, since June 21st. When officers arrived at Muench's residence in the northwest Phoenix suburb, they found the front door ajar.
Inside the home, authorities found the bodies of
two men in separate rooms. One was Ronny John Muench, and the other was 30-year-old Joseph Anthony Talley, who also lived at the address. As investigators began to piece together the events that led to their deaths, they discovered that Muench's car was missing from the property.
A breakthrough in the case came two days later, on July 5th, when police in the nearby city of Surprise located the stolen vehicle. Two men were inside the car and were promptly arrested. The suspects were identified as 20-year-old Dejon Davis of El Mirage and 28-year-old Steven Wilcox of Surprise.
Following the arrests, authorities reported that Davis faced charges of first-degree murder, armed robbery, and car theft. Wilcox was charged with car theft and credit card theft. The investigation revealed that the pair had allegedly attempted to use Muench's debit card to purchase food and marijuana. While the connection between the suspects and the victims was not immediately made public, the arrests brought a swift development to the tragic case of the El Mirage double homicide.
