In the quiet neighborhood of El Mirage, Arizona, the evening of April 27, 2026, was shattered by the sound of gunfire. Seventeen-year-old Ashtin Raische Evans, a boy described by loved ones as kind-hearted and full of love, was walking to a store with a friend near El Mirage and Cactus roads when he was tragically shot multiple times. First responders found the wounded teenager and administered first aid before he was rushed to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Another juvenile was also taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds but was expected to survive.
The El Mirage Police Department responded to several 911 calls reporting the gunshots just before 8 p.m. The investigation that followed led to the arrest of 17-year-old Schiloh Albin Niyibizi of Surprise on April 29. Niyibizi was subsequently booked into the Maricopa County Juvenile Detention Facility.
Schiloh Albin Niyibizi faces serious charges, including second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder, along with several other felony and misdemeanor charges related to the incident. While an arrest has been made, the investigation into the shooting that cut short Ashtin Evans' young life remains ongoing. In the wake of the tragedy, family and friends gathered for a vigil at Buena Vida Park, a place Ashtin was said to have grown up visiting, to remember and mourn the teenager whose life was violently taken.
