In the winter of 2020, a gathering of friends in Tucson, Arizona, took a tragic turn, ending in the death of 55-year-old Jeffrey Ray Hunter. A Black/African American male, Hunter was visiting a friend at a residence on West Blacklidge Drive on December 23rd when an argument erupted among the people present. The disagreement quickly escalated, culminating in gunfire.
When Tucson Police officers arrived at the scene in response to reports of the shooting, they discovered Hunter with
gunshot wounds. He was rushed to Banner-University Medical Center for treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Hunter succumbed to his injuries several hours later.
Detectives from the Tucson Police Department immediately began an investigation into the deadly shooting. Their work, which included interviewing witnesses and processing evidence from the scene, led them to identify a suspect. An arrest was made in connection with the fatal shooting, and the individual taken into custody was subsequently charged with second-degree murder. The investigation into the specific details of the argument that led to the shooting remained ongoing.
