In a moment of tragic miscalculation, the life of 17-year-old Germain Machorro Carrasco was cut short on May 13, 2022, in west Phoenix. The Hispanic teenager was in the backseat of a vehicle near the intersection of 47th Avenue and Thomas Road when a firearm discharged, inflicting a fatal wound.
The incident unfolded around 3:00 p.m. as a 16-year-old acquaintance was reportedly handling the gun and attempting to unload it.
In a devastating turn of events, the weapon fired, striking Carrasco. Emergency services were called to the scene, and the young man was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Germain Machorro Carrasco succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The 16-year-old male who was handling the firearm remained at the location and was detained by the Phoenix Police. Investigators determined that the shooting was accidental. The teenager was subsequently taken into custody and was to be booked on a charge of manslaughter. Due to his status as a juvenile, his name has not been publicly released.
