In the holiday season of 2022, a tragic and senseless act of violence cut short the life of 21-year-old Jada Thompson in Tucson, Arizona. On the evening of December 24th, what began as a simple drive turned into a fatal encounter. While traveling northbound on North Swan Road, near East Speedway Boulevard, Jada was involved in a traffic-related dispute with another vehicle.
The altercation escalated in the worst way imaginable when an occupant of the other car opened fire, striking Jada.
Emergency services were dispatched shortly after 9:30 p.m., and Jada was rushed to Tucson Medical Center with life-threatening gunshot wounds. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was subsequently transferred to Banner University Medical Center, where she fought for her life in critical condition. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Jada Thompson succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased on December 25, 2022.
The Tucson Police Department's Homicide Unit immediately launched an intensive investigation into the shooting. For months, detectives worked diligently, piecing together evidence to identify those responsible for Jada's death. Their breakthrough came through the analysis of forensic evidence, which ultimately pointed to two individuals. On March 3, 2023, the investigation culminated in the arrests of 21-year-old Cameron Patrick Griffith and 20-year-old Jamie Moniq Moore.
The two suspects were located by officers from the Operations Division Midtown and the Community Response Team and were taken into custody without incident. Following their apprehension, investigators executed a search warrant on their vehicle and conducted interviews. At the conclusion of the investigation, both Griffith and Moore were charged with first-degree murder and aggravated assault in connection with the drive-by shooting. They were subsequently booked into the Pima County Jail, each held on a $1,000,000 bond.
