On a Saturday evening in Tucson, Arizona, the life of Edward Colin Colteaux, a 38-year-old man, was cut short. On October 9, 2021, a confrontation occurred near Interstate 10 and St. Mary's Road. An off-duty Border Patrol agent, who has not been publicly identified, reportedly intervened in the altercation. During this intervention, the agent discharged his firearm, striking Colteaux.
Tucson Police Department officers arrived at the scene to find Colteaux with evident signs of trauma.
They immediately began administering first aid, and the Tucson Fire Department also provided medical assistance. Despite these efforts, Edward Colin Colteaux was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 9:48 p.m.
Following the incident, the Tucson Police Department initiated an investigation into the shooting. Concurrently, as is standard procedure in such cases, the U.S. Border Patrol launched its own administrative investigation into the actions of the off-duty agent.
