On November 28, 2023, 17-year-old Jamiere Jenkins, a junior at Combs High School in San Tan Valley, Arizona, was fatally shot in a neighborhood near the intersection of Ocotillo and Gantzel roads. The incident occurred following a verbal altercation between Jenkins and another teenager, Anthony Jason Garcia, also 17 years old. During the confrontation, Garcia pulled out a gun and shot Jenkins in the neck.
