In the quiet south side of Tucson, Arizona, a domestic dispute shattered the peace of a neighborhood and tragically ended the life of 37-year-old Karla Maria Krafft. On April 25, 2024, law enforcement responded to a home on the 300 block of W. Placita Durango to find a grim scene. Inside, Krafft had been fatally shot. The white / caucasian woman's life was cut short in what investigators would soon determine was a violent escalation of a personal conflict.

Krafft had been involved in an argument with her husband, 39-year-old Esaul Duarte Sotelo. At some point during the confrontation, Sotelo armed himself with a gun and shot Krafft. In the immediate aftermath of this act, he then turned the weapon on himself, ending his own life. The Tucson Police Department confirmed the identities of the deceased as the married couple who resided in the home together.
With the deaths of both Krafft and Sotelo at the scene, the case was classified as a murder-suicide. Authorities assured the public that there was no further threat to the community, as the sole suspect in Krafft's death was also deceased.
