In the early morning hours of August 16, 2024, a violent altercation in Tucson, Arizona, claimed the life of 46-year-old Aaron Taber Boatner. The incident, which unfolded shortly before 4:00 a.m. near East Speedway Boulevard and North Stone Avenue, also resulted in gunshot wounds to two other men. When Tucson police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a chaotic situation with multiple victims.
One man, a 57-year-old, was found with gunshot trauma and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers were then directed to a second shooting victim just east of the intersection, near North 7th Avenue. There they found Aaron Boatner, suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate medical aid rendered by both police and the Tucson Fire Department, Boatner succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The investigation further revealed a third victim, a 44-year-old man, at a nearby residence on North 6th Avenue who had been shot in his lower extremities but was in stable condition.
Homicide detectives determined that an altercation involving several individuals had escalated, leading to one of the suspects discharging a firearm. Their investigation led them to identify 21-year-old Rogelio Rene Pacheco as the primary suspect in the fatal shooting. On the night of September 5th, officers with the Community Response Team located Pacheco near downtown Tucson. He was taken into custody without incident by the TPD SWAT team.
Pacheco was subsequently booked into the Pima County Jail on a warrant for second-degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held on a $500,000 bond. Authorities have indicated that they are finalizing their investigation and are not seeking any other suspects in connection with the death of Aaron Boatner.
