In the early afternoon of June 12, 2020, the life of John Miles, a 41-year-old Caucasian male from Council Bluffs, Iowa, was tragically cut short in an apartment complex in northwest Omaha, Nebraska. Officers from the Omaha Police Department were dispatched to the scene near 79th and Blondo Streets shortly after noon following a report of a shooting.
Upon their arrival, they discovered Miles' body inside one of the apartments.
The investigation into the homicide quickly pointed to a primary suspect: 31-year-old Nicholas Hirsch. A felony warrant for first-degree murder was issued for his arrest. Authorities believed Hirsch was driving a 1992 Mercury Grand Marquis and was possibly accompanied by an unidentified woman. As the search for Hirsch intensified, the Omaha Police Department offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to his capture and urged the public to come forward with any leads.
The manhunt for Nicholas Hirsch took a dramatic and violent turn when he was located in Lawrence, Kansas. In a confrontation with law enforcement, Hirsch was killed in a gun battle.
