On a Saturday night in Omaha, Nebraska, the life of 20-year-old Demetrius Johnson, a Black / African American male, was cut short by gun violence. The events unfolded on November 20, 2021, at DJ's Dugout, a sports bar in the western part of the city. Police were initially called to the establishment for a report of shots fired.
Approximately 15 minutes after the initial call, authorities were notified that Johnson had arrived at Methodist Hospital with gunshot wounds.
Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. In the midst of this tragedy, a second individual connected to the shooting at the sports bar appeared at the Nebraska Medical Center. This person had sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the foot.
The Omaha Police Department began an investigation into the shooting. In the immediate aftermath, authorities stated that they had no information regarding a suspect or suspects and the investigation was considered ongoing.
