Stanley Jordan Hyman-Evans was an 18-year-old Black/African American male from Wilmington, Delaware, whose life ended in a nighttime shooting on February 12, 2016. At approximately 10:19 p.m., New Castle County police officers were dispatched to the Belvedere community after receiving a report of gunfire in the area of the 300 block of Clyde Street. When officers arrived near the intersection of Clyde Street and Kiamensi Road, they found Stanley lying wounded in the roadway.
Officers immediately attempted to provide first aid as emergency medical personnel responded.
The incident involved two shooting victims. Paramedics treated both at the scene before transporting them by ambulance to Christiana Hospital. Stanley had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died from his injuries. The other victim survived the initial attack, but publicly available reporting did not identify that person or provide extensive details about the circumstances surrounding the second victim’s injuries.
Investigators did not publicly identify a shooter, describe a suspected motive, or release a detailed account of what led to the gunfire. Available police statements also do not disclose whether witnesses saw the attack, whether a vehicle was involved, how many assailants may have participated, or whether Stanley and the surviving victim were specifically targeted. The absence of publicly named suspects left the case without an announced arrest, criminal charge, prosecution, trial, or conviction.
Years after the killing, New Castle County police continued to classify Stanley’s death as an unsolved homicide. In a 2023 cold-case review, investigators again appealed to the public for information, emphasizing that even a detail that once appeared insignificant could help identify the person or people responsible. Police offered a standing cash reward for information benefiting the investigation or leading to an arrest and conviction.
On February 12, 2026, exactly ten years after the shooting, the New Castle County Division of Police issued another cold-case notice. The department stated that its Criminal Investigations Unit and Cold Case Unit were continuing efforts to resolve the case and again asked anyone with relevant information to contact detectives. That renewed appeal indicates that, as of the tenth anniversary of Stanley’s death, authorities had not publicly announced an arrest or identified a suspect.
Stanley was also identified in obituary records by his fuller name, Stanley Jordan Hyman-Evans. His family held viewing and funeral services later in February 2016 at Simpson UAME Church in Wilmington, followed by a private interment. Messages left by relatives, friends, and community members remembered him as someone with a large heart who enjoyed family gatherings and had worked with young people through Youth for Christ. While those memories preserved a picture of his life beyond the shooting, the central question of who killed him has remained unanswered publicly.
