Damaris Farmer-Rhamad, 20, a Black/African American male, was shot on the afternoon of October 23, 2019, inside a residence in the 1800 block of Choptank Road in Middletown, Delaware. Troopers responded around 2:25 p.m., and medics rushed him to Christiana Hospital in critical condition. He died the next day, October 24, 2019. Authorities later noted he was from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The state medical examiner determined he died from a gunshot wound and ruled the manner of death a homicide.
Investigators concluded the shooting followed a physical struggle between Damaris and his father, 55-year-old Derrick A. Rhamad, who had a firearm during the altercation; the gun discharged during the struggle, striking the son. On January 31, 2020, Derrick Rhamad turned himself in to Delaware State Police and was charged with Murder Second Degree and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony. He was ordered held on a $300,000 cash-only bond at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution.
