Kylee Earlmize Robinson, an 18-year-old Black male, was killed on Sunday afternoon, October 29, 2023, in Laurel, Delaware. He had been on the porch of a residence at 508 West Seventh Street with other young people when the violence unfolded in broad daylight. Around 2:47 p.m., Laurel Police and Delaware State Police troopers were called to the 500 block of West 7th Street for a reported shooting. When officers arrived, they found Kylee suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
He was taken to an area hospital, but he was pronounced dead there.
Two other victims, a 15-year-old male and a 13-year-old male, were also found on the porch with gunshot wounds to their lower extremities. Both were taken to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. Because of the seriousness of the shooting, the Laurel Police Department asked the Delaware State Police Homicide Unit to take over the investigation. Investigators later said the attack appeared to involve two unknown male suspects who approached the victims on foot, opened fire, and then ran away westbound after several rounds were fired.
Kylee's death left his family searching for answers. His mother, Danielle Stevens, described him as someone with an infectious smile and a good spirit, a teen who had been getting ready for his senior year homecoming less than a day before he was killed. He attended Laurel High School and had dreamed of becoming an architect after graduation. His obituary remembered him as someone with a big heart who encouraged his friends, told jokes, did magic tricks, played basketball, drew, made music, and loved fishing. He had also worked at the Laurel Flea Market, the Delmar McDonald's, and Delmar Nursing Home.
In January 2024, nearly three months after the shooting, local reporting stated that no arrests had been made. Delaware Crime Stoppers offered a $5,000 cash reward for information leading to an arrest, and police continued asking the public for help. Kylee's mother said she believed people must have seen something, pointing to two boys running around in winter jackets and ski masks, and pleaded for anyone with information to come forward.
By October 2024, Delaware State Police were still publicly trying to identify the suspects. Police released an “attempt to identify” update and said the Homicide Unit continued to investigate. The suspects had not been publicly named in the official update, and investigators described them only as two unknown male suspects who approached on foot and started shooting before fleeing. No trial or conviction information was found in the online sources reviewed, and the available public updates indicate the case remained an active, unsolved homicide investigation with police still seeking the identities of the people responsible.
