In June 2012, Richard S. Bellittieri, a 60-year-old resident of Trenton, Maine, was murdered by William Morse, a local carpenter. Morse shot Bellittieri in the head and buried his body near Bellittieri's home on Goose Cove Road. Following the murder, Morse assumed Bellittieri's identity, using his personal documents and financial resources.
