On the morning of October 6, 2023, the life of 30-year-old Kylee Ann Turcotte, a White female from Lisbon, Maine, was tragically cut short. Firefighters at the Lisbon Falls Fire Station were alerted to a distressing scene when they heard a woman's scream coming from the street at approximately 7 a.m. As they went to investigate, they witnessed a man, later identified as 38-year-old Benjamin Peterson of Pittston, exit a vehicle and shoot himself in the head with a handgun.
Upon reaching
the vehicle, first responders made a grim discovery. Kylee Turcotte was found deceased in the driver's seat. An autopsy later conducted by the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta ruled her death a homicide. Authorities reported that Turcotte and Peterson had been in a former relationship. The incident prompted the closure of a section of Main Street for several hours as Maine State Police and Lisbon Police detectives processed the scene.
Benjamin Peterson was transported to Central Maine Medical Center in critical condition following the self-inflicted gunshot wound. He succumbed to his injuries later that same day, at 10:22 p.m. State police identified Peterson as the suspect in Turcotte's murder. With Peterson's death, the investigation concluded that the event was a murder-suicide, and authorities assured the public that there was no ongoing threat.
