In the quiet community of Bath, Maine, the life of 58-year-old Lisa Adele Martin Bailey, a beloved member of the community, was cut tragically short on Sunday, October 6, 2024. On that Sunday morning, shortly before 7:00 AM, the tranquility of their Crawford Drive neighborhood was shattered by the sound of gunshots. Police responded to reports of a shooting and upon arrival, discovered Lisa and her 32-year-old daughter, Jennifer Bailey, suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate life-saving efforts of the officers from the Bath and Brunswick Police Departments and deputies from the Sagadahoc County Sheriff's Office, both women were pronounced deceased at the scene.
The suspect in the double homicide was identified as Lisa's 66-year-old husband, Michael Bailey. Initially, it was reported that he had fled the scene, prompting a shelter-in-place order for the surrounding area. However, the Maine State Police Tactical Team later located Michael inside the residence, deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The investigation revealed a history of domestic abuse, and it was reported that Lisa had recently filed for divorce. Police had been called to the Bailey home twice on a single day in September for a reported assault with a knife and a family fight.
