In the quiet town of Bozeman, Montana, a young life was tragically cut short on March 11, 2016. Daniel Robert Knarr, a Caucasian male infant just six months old, passed away in his home. Born on September 4, 2015, Daniel was a source of immense joy to his family. He had a special bond with his older sister, Cooper, and delighted in playing with the family pets.
His father, Joe Knarr, could always make him light up with laughter, and he cherished quiet moments spent on the floor with his mother, who would read him bedtime stories.
Daniel was an adventurous baby, often accompanying his mother on long hikes and outdoor excursions. He was present for memorable family moments, including a hunting trip where his sister shot her first elk. His grandmother held a particularly deep affection for him, cherishing the hours spent snuggling him while he slept. These moments of peace and familial love, however, were shattered by the events that unfolded on that tragic day.
The Gallatin County Sheriff's Office investigated the deaths and determined it to be a murder-suicide. The investigation concluded that Daniel's mother, Jennifer Knarr, was the perpetrator. She shot and killed both her husband, Joe, a 53-year-old game warden with Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks, and their infant son, Daniel, before taking her own life. The community was left in shock and mourning at the loss of the dedicated game warden and his innocent child. As the suspect in this devastating event was deceased, no arrests were made.
