On April 8, 2020, 43-year-old Chad Rockman of Billings, Montana, was fatally shot near the Lake Fork Trail south of Red Lodge. Earlier that day, Rockman and a friend had driven to the trail for a hike, seeking to alleviate his anxiety and depression, which had been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and a new psychiatric medication.
