On the evening of October 24, 2021, 51-year-old David W. Meacham of Kalispell, Montana, was fatally shot during a confrontation with a known acquaintance behind the vacant Kmart building on U.S. 2 East in Evergreen. The incident occurred around 10 p.m., and Meacham succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
