Seven-month-old Stellan Olson-Hartley, a Caucasian male, was found deceased on Sunday, May 11, 2025, the victim of a shocking act of violence that also claimed the lives of his mother and sister. The devastating discovery was made after a distressing 911 call led authorities to their home on Werner Peak Trail.
The chain of events began to unfold just before 6 a.m. when the children's father, 33-year-old Nicholas Olson-Hartley, made a call to dispatch, uttering several statements that raised immediate concern before the line went dead. When Kalispell Police officers arrived at the residence, they were unable to make contact with anyone inside. Observing signs that warranted immediate entry, they forced their way into the home.
Inside, a horrific scene awaited them.
The bodies of Nicholas Olson-Hartley, his 27-year-old wife Katie Olson-Hartley, their 6-year-old daughter Heidi Idunn Olson-Hartley, and the infant Stellan were discovered. All four had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. The ensuing investigation by the Kalispell Police Department concluded that Nicholas Olson-Hartley was the perpetrator, having fatally shot his wife and two young children before taking his own life.
Authorities have treated the incident as a murder-suicide and have confirmed that there are no other suspects and no ongoing threat to the public.
