In the quiet, early morning hours of January 19, 2022, a tragedy unfolded in the small community of Big Arm, Montana, ending the life of 79-year-old Florence Brown, a Caucasian female. Responding to a report of a possible homicide-suicide just before 4:30 a.m., Lake County deputies arrived at the residence she shared with her son.
Inside the home, authorities discovered Florence Brown and her dog, both fatally shot. Her 48-year-old son, Kirk Brown, was also found with a gunshot wound. He was still alive when deputies arrived and was transported to a nearby hospital, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation conducted by the Lake County Sheriff's Office concluded that Kirk Brown was the
perpetrator of the tragic event. Evidence indicated that he shot and killed his mother and her dog before turning the gun on himself. As the sole suspect in the homicide, no arrests were made in connection with Florence Brown's death. The bodies were sent to the state medical examiner's office in Missoula as the investigation continued.
