On November 1, 2023, Kenneth Vernon Morrison Sr., a 31-year-old White/Caucasian male, was tragically killed in a shooting at a residence in Billings, Montana. The incident, which occurred in the morning hours, also resulted in the death of his infant son, Tatee'k "Teddy" Cole Morrison, who was just a day shy of his first birthday.
According to reports, a vehicle approached the home on North 17th Street and a volley of shots was fired into the residence.
When law enforcement arrived, they found Kenneth Morrison deceased inside. His infant son was discovered unresponsive underneath him and was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries, which were determined to be the result of compression asphyxia after his father collapsed on him.
In the aftermath of the shooting, a SWAT team was activated, and several individuals were detained for questioning, though no immediate arrests were made in connection with the homicides. The investigation soon identified multiple suspects. Two individuals, Myron Scott Goes Ahead and Jane Nicole Knows His Gun, were subsequently charged in relation to the deaths. Knows His Gun later pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of tampering with evidence and was sentenced to ten years in prison.
A third suspect, Godfrey Joseph Broken Rope, was identified and a warrant was issued for his arrest on double homicide charges. The U.S. Marshals Service offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to his capture. Broken Rope was believed to have been in the backseat of the pickup truck from which the shots were fired. After a manhunt, he was taken into custody following a high-speed chase in Billings.
