Andres Garcia, 35, male, was walking near the intersection of Merrimack and Greeley streets in Nashua on the afternoon of Friday, May 2, 2014, when gunfire shattered the block. Just after 4 p.m., shots were fired outside 14–16 Merrimack Street, steps from Holman Stadium. Garcia and a 32-year-old woman, Mireily Rodriguez-Torres, were struck multiple times. He was rushed to a Boston hospital, where he died around 2 a.m. the next day, Saturday, May 3. Rodriguez-Torres survived her injuries.
Investigators quickly focused on a single suspect: 34-year-old Carlos Alago-Collazo of Nashua, identified as Rodriguez-Torres's former boyfriend. Authorities said he opened fire on the pair on Merrimack Street before fleeing south. Hours later, the search ended across the state line in Lawrence, Massachusetts, where police found Alago-Collazo in a parked car, dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. With the suspected gunman deceased, there were no arrests in the case.
By mid-May, as Rodriguez-Torres recovered, the Attorney General's Office continued to detail the timeline: the first 911 calls at approximately 4:14 p.m., officers arriving to find both victims on the ground outside 16 Merrimack Street, and evidence indicating a handgun had been used. Friends and family in Nashua remembered Garcia as a gentle presence whose final walk home was interrupted by violence he never invited.
