In the quiet city of Nashua, New Hampshire, the life of 49-year-old David Smith, a Caucasian male, came to an abrupt and violent end in the summer of 2018. Just after midnight on July 8th, police received a 911 call and were dispatched to a residence on Buck Street. Inside, they discovered Mr. Smith deceased. Initially, authorities deemed the death "suspicious," launching an immediate investigation into the circumstances surrounding the discovery.
Neighbors in the area described him as a quiet man who was not known to cause trouble.
An autopsy conducted the following day by the Chief Medical Examiner's office revealed a grim reality: David Smith's death was a homicide, the result of a single gunshot wound to the head. This finding set off a long and complex investigation led by the Nashua Police Department and the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office. For years, the case unfolded away from the public eye as investigators meticulously pieced together the events that led to the fatal shooting.
The investigation eventually pointed to a robbery plot orchestrated by individuals from Connecticut. In March 2022, authorities announced significant breakthroughs in the case. Clinton Turner, then 30, of New Haven, Connecticut, was indicted by a Hillsborough County Superior Court grand jury on multiple charges, including acting as an accomplice to second-degree murder, conspiracy to commit robbery, and two counts of robbery. Another individual, Diana Hazard, 32, also from Connecticut, was indicted for her alleged role as an accomplice to robbery and faced misdemeanor charges of conspiracy to commit theft and theft.
The man investigators identified as the shooter was Tramaine Poole, 41, also of New Haven. The indictments alleged that Turner aided Poole in the robbery of David Smith, which ultimately led to Poole shooting and killing him. However, Poole would never face justice for his alleged crimes. Roughly a month after Smith's murder, Poole himself was killed in a shootout with Virginia State Police following a pursuit in a stolen vehicle. At the time of the Nashua homicide, Poole was already wanted on a warrant for the murder of his wife in Connecticut, which had occurred just a month prior to Smith's death.
