On June 21, 2017, 24-year-old James Brock was fatally shot in Franklin, New Hampshire. His remains were discovered on August 1, 2017, in a wooded area of the city, following information provided to the police. An autopsy confirmed that Brock died from a single gunshot wound to the head.
Investigations led authorities to Richard Tripaldi, Brock's former boyfriend, as the primary suspect. Tripaldi was apprehended in Manchester, New Hampshire, on August 2, 2017.
During questioning, he confessed to the murder, revealing that he had lured Brock to an abandoned campsite with the intent to kill him and steal his car. After the shooting, Tripaldi buried Brock's body and took his vehicle.
On April 25, 2018, Tripaldi pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and theft by unauthorized taking. He was sentenced to 42 years to life in prison for the murder charge and received a concurrent sentence of 7½ to 15 years for the theft. The case highlighted the collaborative efforts of the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office, the New Hampshire State Police, the Franklin Police Department, and the Manchester Police Department in bringing justice for James Brock.
