In the quiet town of Poultney, Vermont, the life of 19-year-old Daniel Hein, a Caucasian male, was tragically cut short on Sunday, December 18, 2016. The young man, who was known for his love of skateboarding and spending time with friends and family, died from a gunshot wound. The fatal incident unfolded inside a vehicle parked in a driveway on Roberts Avenue, forever altering the lives of those involved.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, an investigation was launched, leading
to the arrest of William Bailey, 19, also of Poultney. Bailey was taken into custody and charged with manslaughter in connection with Hein's death. Investigators determined that four men were inside the vehicle at the time of the shooting. Besides Hein and Bailey, two other individuals, Dylan Czarnecki, 21, and Jonathan Testa, 21, both from Poultney, were present.
Following the incident, Czarnecki and Testa left the scene before law enforcement arrived. Czarnecki was later located by police, interviewed, and subsequently taken into custody for probation violations. Initially, authorities sought the public's help in locating Testa, identifying him as a witness to the shooting. Later, he too was arrested and faced a charge of involuntary manslaughter. The events of that December night left a community in mourning and a family grappling with the sudden and violent loss of a young man.
